Op vrijdag 11 mei 2012 vond een table ronde plaats over 'L’Encyclopedie de l’Islam (EI3) au défi de l’anthropologie, de la sociologie et des études minoritaires' (uitgegeven door Brill). Léon Buskens (directeur LUCIS), Maurits van den Boogert (Brill), Gudrun Krämer (Freie Universität Berlin) en Marie Miran-Guyon (Centre d'études africaines, CEAf) organiseerden deze bijeenkomst over de plaats van de sociale wetenschappen in de EI3. On Wednesday 2 May, the International Institute for Asian Studies ( IIAS ) and LUCIS organised an event to celebrate the launch of the book 'Women from Traditional Islamic Educational Institutions in Indonesia: Negotiating Public Spaces', by Dr Eka Srimulyani. Tuesday 1 May | Lecture by Vali Nasr: The Shi’a Factor in the Arab Awakening | Leiden

On Tuesday 1 May, LUCIS hosted a lecture by Vali Nasr, a leading Iranian-American scholar on Islam and the Middle East and advisor to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. His lecture will address Iran’s political influence in the Middle East, and various aspects of the Shiite communities, in the light of the Arab Spring. Time: 15.00-17.00 hrs. Location: room C1.04 in the 'Oude Sterrewacht' (old observatory) in Leiden.


Wednesday 21 March | 1st event of Hikma - Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies study association @ Leiden University | Leiden, 18.00-20.00 hrs

The new master study association Hikma invites everyone interested in the Middle East to its first event, in which the programme of the association will be presented and in which dr.
