4 November: Film screening 'The World of Us' with talk by filmmaker
The Department of Korean Studies is proud to present a free screening event for The World of Us (2016) and a public discussion with the filmmaker, Yoon Ga-eun. Using close-ups, hand-held camera techniques, and child actors’ natural performances, The World of Us vividly captures the complex and delicate world of children and invites all demographics of viewers to intimately approach the children’s emotional core.
Yoon Ga-eun is acclaimed as one of the most promising South Korean filmmakers of the new generation. She has directed several short films including The Taste of Salvia (2009), Proof (2010), Guest (2011), which won the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 2012, and Sprout (2013), which won the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film at Berlinale. The World of Us is her feature debut and has been invited to numerous international film festivals including the 66th Berlin International Film Festival and the 18th Udine Far East Film Festival. The film was awarded for the Best Feature Film for Children and the Best Child Actor in Feature Film for Children at the 2016 International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Zlin.
The screening is followed by a discussion with the filmmaker and a reception. The discussion is led by Dr. Namhee Han (Korean Studies), organizer of the event. All are welcome!
